What are the different types of flooring commonly used in dealership showrooms?

Tile

Tile is very equal to epoxy in pricing and there are many design options available making it a great choice for showroom floors. Pricing will vary from $5 all the way up to $20 per sq ft, or more for custom options.

Concrete

Polished concrete can be used on showroom floors although they don’t have the chemical or slip resistance of epoxy. This is an issue in Minnesota as people track in salt and snow from the outside.

The price scale on this system can vary greatly, but in this case, you do really get what you pay for. The more durable polished concrete systems require a lot of man-hours and machinery to achieve a system that will hold up to the high foot traffic that dealership floors have. Generally, this is the most expensive system.

Epoxy

Quartz and decorative mosaic are the best epoxy options for dealership floors. They are extremely durable and withstand a high amount of traffic while showing little wear. Both options have custom blends to match the existing design and aesthetics of a dealership. Pricing is typically in the $5-$10 range but can vary depending on the specifics of the job.

What kinds of options and customizations would be good for a dealership floor?

The only two options we would recommend are quartz or decorative mosaic. Metallic may look nice initially but in such a high-traffic area it would show wear very quickly. Having an anti-slip additive incorporated into the finish coat of any epoxy system is a must for showroom floors. We have various textures available that provide enough slip resistance, while still maintaining its cleanability.

What color combinations are common in car dealership showrooms?

Any color combination can work. We have many standard blends of colors, and can also make custom blends if needed. Both systems fit seamlessly into the design of a dealership.

  • White epoxy with silver glitter-like flakes
  • Metallic white
  • Black glossy

Is a decorative epoxy strong enough to hold up to vehicles being driven on it?

Both the decorative mosaic and quartz systems can withstand vehicle traffic. They actually hold up extremely well and are a preferred system for showroom flooring. In drive-through service bays, we can also install solid color, or partial flake systems and these hold up just the same and have the same custom anti-slip qualities.

What is the downtime for a car dealership to install an epoxy floor in their showroom?

1-5 days is our typical down time for our epoxy systems. We understand that dealerships have few days where they are not in use and we typically try to work around that schedule, whether it involves using fast cure products or phasing a project and breaking it up over a couple of weeks.

Can the same epoxy floor be used in the auto shop portion of the dealership?

The same epoxy that’s used in the showroom floor works great for service write-up areas and auto shop floors. While quartz or decorative epoxy would work, these are more expensive and time-consuming installations. In these areas, we most often install a solid color or partial flake epoxy system.

These are just as durable as any of the previously discussed systems and hold up to vehicular traffic, and spills from auto fluids. We can typically install these systems in 1-2 days which allows for a fast return to service for the dealership.
